What are the differences between THC and CBD?

What are the differences between THC and CBD? Both substances are cannabinoids found in hemp and/or cannabis plants. CBD is often used for its medical properties, while THC causes a stoned/high feeling. How do these substances work exactly? We will describe the characteristics of both substances in this blog!

CBD (Cannabidiol)

CBD is a non-psychoactive compound, so you will not get high or stoned when ingesting it. For this reason, CBD is legally available! It is known for its unique healing effects experienced upon ingestion. CBD is often extracted from the hemp plant, as it contains minimal THC. CBD is commonly used in oils or cosmetics. CBD oil is easy to dose, making it a favorite among CBD users. CBD is not only beneficial as a medical remedy, but it can also help with skin issues and other problems, which is why it is incorporated into cosmetic products.

THC (Tetrahydrocannabidol)

Compared to CBD, THC does contain psychoactive properties. In higher concentrations, THC induces a high or stoned feeling. However, in lower concentrations, THC has a different effect on the body. When you ingest low concentrations of THC with CBD, it enhances the entourage effect. This is one reason why there is always a small amount of THC (<0.05) in CBD oils. THC cannot be freely sold and is listed as a controlled substance. THC-rich cannabis comes from female cannabis plants, as they are abundant in THC.

Key Points about CBD:

  • Non-psychoactive
  • Suitable for all ages (even animals!)
  • Has relaxing and potential healing effects
  • Legal status in most places
  • Primarily derived from hemp plants

Key Points about THC:

  • Psychoactive
  • Not suitable for children/animals
  • Does not always induce relaxation
  • Illegal in many countries
  • Primarily derived from cannabis plants

Combined Effects of THC & CBD:

The combination of CBD and THC is not always a good mix (unless in small amounts of THC). When you smoke cannabis, you are consuming both substances simultaneously. The presence of CBD weakens the high from THC, and you may not feel the healing effects of CBD strongly. For experiencing the full benefits of CBD, it is recommended to use it separately from THC. However, taking CBD before consuming THC is said to enhance the effects of THC!

In summary, CBD primarily has medicinal effects on the body, while THC causes a stoned/high feeling. We hope that the differences between THC and CBD are now clear, and you can choose what suits you best.
